Hello and Welcome!

My name is Catherine “Cathy” Diosdado and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New Mexico. In 1993 at New Mexico Military Institute, my journey with social work began with an Associate’s degree and continued onto New Mexico State University until I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in 1995. I earned my Masters of Social Work degree in 2001 at NMSU. Throughout my 29 years of social work, I have been fortunate to have many different experiences shape me as a therapist. I have had the opportunities to learn and understand the child protective services system, juvenile justice system, medical social work, clinical social work within the community mental health system as well as school/behavioral health social work.

My life’s passion has centered around children, youth, and their families where I have been privileged to meet the most heroic of people…those who genuinely WANT and DESIRE to make changes in their own worlds. I love working within New Mexico (truly my home since I was 3 years old) and walking along side our courageous people. The journey of healing can feel and seem scary; and, because of this, I work hard to create an environment of safety, security, and connection….to help hold hope, build up hope, give hope, and BE a hope (in some ways) for children, adolescents, couples, and adult individuals who seek a change within themselves. I named my company, Journey of Hope Therapy Services, LLC because of this passion!

As a clinician, I tend to be laid back, non-judgmental, open and use various approaches. I have come to genuinely, professionally relate with ”Life IS like a box of chocolates (movie Forest Gump)” which really requires us to manage it from outside the “box.” My approaches are flexible and meant to work FOR you. I work hard to ensure whichever approach we decide on, is helpful, supportive, and something YOU feel is helping create the hope and changes you want. You are the expert of your family, in your own life, and I am your “co-pilot.”

We all experienced the life changes demanded of us in 2020, particularly the explosion of tele-mental health services. I was fortunate to experience telehealth/video conferencing a couple of years prior to the pandemic and have continued to develop my skills as a tele-therapist. Professionally, I have significant training/experiences in trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment, strengths based-solution focused, working with juvenile sex offenders, and in Child-Parent psychotherapy/Infant Mental Health. I am currently learning sandtray/play therapy to use with people of all ages. My hope is to be able to bring this experience to my teletherapy skills with the use of digital sandtrays (already available for use) in the next few years!
